I was watching CSPAN last night thinking to myself I must be the only nerd in the world glued to this political junkie station.
Then I checked my Facebook page.
Then a good friend of mine started messaging me and we did the play by play as we both watched – the same thing we do during Yankees games to celebrate every Jeter play, every ARod hit.
So I was joined by a whole army of people as we watched a truly historic moment – the House FINALLY passed healthcare reform – now it is on to the President’s desk.
Congratulations to each and every one of you that did everything from travel 26 hours round trip to DC with me, to making phone calls, attending rallies, writing letters to the editor, calling your Representatives again and again, to just talking to your neighbor.
This win is for you.
And according to our President – “this is what change looks like”.
Now, let’s make it better!
Diana-No you are not the only nerd in the world. I was driving last night bemoaning the fact that indeed I wasn’t at home watching the debate so I spent the entire ride flipping between CNN and Fox radio anxiously awaiting the final tally….which was for me a dissapointment. While I applaud your passion and your conviction at the end of the day while an exciting and historical day for you and your friends this is a bad day for the American people. President Obama and Dems in congress went against what the vast majority of Americans wanted when it came to this Healthcare plan. The victory will be short lived as they will pay dearly in November….and hopefully 2012.
Well I was excited since the only way they could have passed the bill was because the majority of America voted for a Democratic Representative. But we (also the american people since I just checked my birth certificate and yep still says America) did have a good night. Good Job Di!
rlyn-How can you say it was a great night for the American people when virtually every poll taken shows that the vast majority of Americans were against the passage of this bill yet Obama and the Dems in Congress jammed it down our throats anyway?
Easy Shim – Because the polls were taken after the Teabaggers threw about their lies and deceptions and as a bunch of lily livered blue dogs got cold feet and forgot about doing the right thing and hemmed and hawed for months while the public became disillusioned. I lay this on YOUR doorstep. The Dems that voted for this had true COURAGE to get it done. It’s not pretty, we have to improve it, but no social program has ever been perfect when the legislation was first passed. It takes time, courage and a certain comfort level with the good that can come about from change.
Diana-You give the teabaggers too much credit. Millions of intelligent hard working Americans were against this thing from the beginning…That’s where the teabagger movement really began to take hold. The facts remain 80-85%of the American people were satisfied with their health insurance. Were there a few things that could have been improved upon? Of course. But you don’t overhaul the entire health care system to insure roughly an additional 10-12% of the American people. Call it for what it really is..yet another attack on business, high income earners and achievers in this country. Hell Obama and company didn’t even have enough Democratic votes to pass this thing until the 11th hour when he started wheeling and dealing within his own party to get over the 216 votes.
